whenIn my blog post from 01-21-2016 I talked about winter storm Jonas, comparing it with the biblical account of Jonah and Nineveh. Today I want to expound on that just a little bit. A few years ago I became very interested when the Weather Channel announced it would start naming winter storms. I often wonder about the naming process. The current severe winter storm is named Jonas. Please read the previous post. Jonas is causing all kinds of chaos to those who live in it's path with Washington DC and New York City in it's cross-hairs. The seat of Political power and the seat of Financial Power along with the United Nations bringing with it coastal flooding, heavy winds and huge amounts of snow. I have waited to see if anyone might have gone deeper with this subject but after letting a day pass, I want to bring up the second part of this comparison. The name of the storm that preceded this one was named Ilias. As Jonas is the Greek form of the Hebrew name Jonah, Ilias is the Greek form of the Hebrew name Elijah. Elijah was a prophet in the Old Testement that gave a message of repentance for Israel who had fallen into idol worship under Ahab and Jezebel. Elijah was given control over rain and fire...weather. Jewish tradition is that Jonah was the son of the Zerephath widow that Elijah brought back to life. So, God gave life to Jonah through Elijah. Did Ilias bring a message of repentance to "Israel" and is Jonas bringing the message of repentance or be destroyed to "Nineveh"? Just a thought.
